Mystery Sheen, Off San Clemente Island, CA

Shortly after 1000 hours (Pacific) on 05-SEP-2012, USCG Sector San Diego contacted their NOAA SSC to request trajectory support for a mystery sheen observed approximately 13 NM offshore. Earlier this morning, the USCG Cutter STRATTON had observed and reported a 2.0 x 0.5 NM thin rainbow sheen (suspected to be diesel) approximately 13 NM Southwest of San Clemente Island (32-36.6N, 118-34.4 W). Sector SD requested a trajectory estimate to verify if additional notifications will need to be made within a specific area.
